Geosciences-Congressional Visits Day (CVD),
September 17-18, 2013
This annual event is sponsored by the American Geoscience Institute in collaboration with other geoscience associations. This year’s visits included nine AAPG members and three of their family members.
In all about 75 geoscientists from a dozen geoscience organizations participated in the event. The AAPG group had 20 meetings with senators, representatives, or their staff. Major discussion topics included: hydraulic fracturing, improved access to federal lands, and the importance of research and development to enabling innovative and safe oil and gas development and training the next generation of scientists.
Although there were few energy bills to discuss because of the preoccupation with fiscal issues, members were able to introduce AAPG and themselves as sources of reliable scientific information relative to oil and gas issues.
